‘Kingmaker”: A Poem

 

I open the cupboard,

reach for a mug.

 

My mind –

ahead of me –

sees coffee in it.

 

I hesitate.

 

In a moment of clarity

I return it to the shelf,

revoke its destiny,

choose another.

 

Because I can.
